RULES & RESTRICTIONS
No throwing candy, gifts, or other items. Silly String, water sprayers, Super Soakers, and similar items are also prohibited by City ordinance and will be enforced by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Participants may hand items directly to spectators by walking alongside the crowd. Balls are not allowed on the parade route for safety reasons. Violations may result in disqualification, removal from the parade, and suspension from future parades.
No stopping on the parade route. Once an entry enters the line of march, it must continue moving. Stopping at announcer stations or anywhere along the route may result in disqualification or removal.
Award eligibility: Entries must complete the full parade route to be eligible for an award. Entries will only be judged if “yes” was selected on the entry form. Judges’ decisions are final.
Horses are not permitted in this year’s parade for safety reasons.
Entry numbers must be displayed on the front right corner of the lead vehicle’s windshield or on the right sleeve of the lead participant. Failure to display the entry number may result in disqualification from judging.
Children under age 10 must ride in the parade and be accompanied by a responsible adult. Due to heat and route length, young children may not walk or march. Bicycles, scooters, or similar options are allowed, but a support vehicle must accompany the entry for emergencies. All participants are encouraged to bring water, especially children and seniors.
Helmets are required for participants under 18 riding bicycles, skateboards, skates, scooters, motorcycles, or similar equipment. Helmets are required for all motorcycle riders, regardless of age, and are strongly encouraged for all other riders. Helmet laws will be enforced by the Sheriff’s Department.
Liability waivers are required for every parade participant. A parent or guardian must sign for minors. Waivers must be submitted at check-in on parade day.
Commercial entries are limited to three vehicles and will be placed together. Commercial vehicles supporting a charitable organization are exempt from the three-vehicle limit; however, no single entry may include more than 12 vehicles. Entries with more than 12 vehicles must submit separate entry forms and pay separate registration fees for each group of 12.
Entries are limited to the number of vehicles listed on the entry form. Extra vehicles arriving on parade day may not be allowed to participate. If approved by the Parade Committee, additional vehicles may be placed at the end of the parade as a separate entry and may be subject to late fees.
Political or inappropriate entries may be disqualified or removed at the discretion of SCVTV and the Parade Committee, except for entries representing political office holders, candidates, or recognized political parties.
Alcohol and controlled substances are prohibited in all parade areas, including pre-parade and post-parade areas, unless otherwise authorized. The Sheriff’s Department will enforce all applicable laws.
Entries may not double back along the parade route while the parade is in progress.
Failure to follow parade rules or staff instructions may result in disqualification, removal, and a minimum one-year suspension from the parade. This includes unsafe behavior, rudeness, vulgarity, or misconduct.
