On July 4, 2024, join thousands of participants and spectators as we celebrate America's Independence!

2024 THEME: The Freedom to PLAY - Celebrating our Parks, Trails and Open Space

Starting at 9 a.m. at the Newhall roundabout, the 91st Anniversary parade will make its way north on Main Street, west onto Lyons Avenue in front of the Newhall Library, and then north onto Orchard Village Road, ending at Dalbey Drive. Get ready to witness the excitement as scout troops, clubs, nonprofits, businesses, religious organizations, and individual residents show off their patriotic spirit.

Wanna be part of the parade? Then submit your entry via Eventbrite by June 14, 2024. But hurry, late entries will be accepted until June 21, 2024, however, a late fee applies.

PLEASE NOTE: HORSES ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PARADE

And the best part? You don't even need to register to watch the parade! Simply show up and enjoy the festivities.

Due to the high volume of inquiries we receive as the parade date approaches, we ask that you PLEASE READ the Frequently Asked Questions, before contacting the SCV Fourth of July Parade Committee. If your question is unanswered, you can direct your inquiry to parade@scvtv.com.

But that's not all - local media outlets like SCVTV, The Signal newspaper, KHTS FM 98.1/AM 1220 and Santa Clarita Magazine will be covering the parade in their own unique way. Tune into SCVTV.com and Facebook, as well as Spectrum Channel 20, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, Apple TV and Roku for exclusive interviews, float-by-float announcing, and a multi-camera production. And who knows? You might even catch a glimpse of yourself on TV!

The Santa Clarita Valley Fourth of July Parade is organized annually by a dedicated volunteer committee. For more information about the parade and the entry form, head to scvparade.com and follow the Santa Clarita Valley Fourth of July Parade Facebook page.

RULES & RESTRICTIONS

(Read them; rules have been updated)

NOTE: Attending & watching the Parade is FREE -- This is registration to participate in the parade itself.

All entries participate at the sole discretion of the SCV Fourth of July Parade Committee.

To be eligible for an award, the entry must complete the entire parade route. In addition, entries will be judged only if the "yes" box is checked on the entry form. All decisions of the SCV Fourth of July Parade Committee judges shall be final.

HORSES ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PARADE

Once you enter the line of march, there is ABSOLUTELY NO STOPPING along the parade route for any reason — with ONE exception. Entries that have indicated they want to be judged may stop to perform for NO MORE THAN 20 SECONDS in front of the judges stand. Entries that stop in front of announcer stations, or anywhere else along the parade route, are subject to disqualification and removal from the parade.

NO THROWING CANDY OR GIFTS and no shooting spectators with Silly String or water (Super Soakers, etc.). These actions are prohibited by city ordinance [read it here], which WILL BE ENFORCED by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Violators are subject to disqualification and ejection from the parade. If you want to distribute candy or other items to spectators, someone from your entry must walk alongside the crowd and HAND it to them. No balls are allowed on the parade route for safety reasons.

Violators of the no-throwing rule (or shooting water etc.) WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FOLLOWING YEAR'S FOURTH OF JULY PARADE or any other parade held in the interim.

The lead vehicle (or rider, etc.) of each entry must display the entry number — which you receive at registration — in the front right corner of the windshield (or right sleeve of a garment). Failure to properly display the entry number is grounds for disqualification from judging.

Children under age 10 must ride — not walk or march — in the parade and must be accompanied by a responsible adult. It is simply too hot and the parade route is too long for young children to walk. Riding in a vehicle is preferred; "riding" can also mean a bicycle, scooter or similar conveyance, but in such instances, a vehicle must follow/accompany the entry for emergency purposes. It is strongly advised that all participants bring water, especially for children and seniors.

Under age 18, HELMETS ARE REQUIRED for all riders of bicycles, skateboards, inline skates, scooters (motorized or not), motorcycles, etc.; age 18 and older, HELMETS ARE REQUIRED FOR MOTORCYCLES and strongly encouraged for all other human-powered modes of conveyance. ALL LAWS relating to helmet use will be enforced by the Sheriff's Department. Violators are subject to disqualification and ejection from the parade.

EACH individual parade participant must sign a Liability Waiver. In the case of a minor, a parent or guardian must sign. The Liability Waiver must be submitted at check-in on parade day. It can be submitted earlier by mail (SCV Fourth of July Parade / P.O. Box 802993 / Santa Clarita CA 91380). NO PERSON MAY PARTICIPATE IN THE PARADE WITHOUT A SIGNATURE ON FILE.

Parade check-in opens at 6 a.m. at the Veteran's Historical Plaza. Registration closes PROMPTLY AT 7:30 AM. Late arrivals (after 7:30 a.m.) cannot be accommodated. (Equestrian entries must be ready for inspection at 7:30 a.m.)

HORSES ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PARADE

Entries that are purely commercial in nature, are limited to three vehicles and will not be broken up (i.e., all cars from the same business will be placed together). Commercial units that are merely appearing in support of, AND in conjunction with, a separate charitable organization, are exempt from this rule. However, no single entry shall have more than 12 vehicles. If you have more than 12 vehicles, you must complete a separate entry form for each multiple of 12, and pay separate registration fees for each entry. (13-24 vehicles? Two entry forms and double fees. 25-36 vehicles? Three entry forms and triple fees. And so forth.) Related entries will not necessarily be placed together in the line of march.

Notwithstanding the above limitations, entries are limited to the number of vehicles you indicate on your entry form. Excess vehicles that show up on parade day will not be allowed to join the entry. Upon approval of the Parade Committee, the excess vehicles may be accommodated as a separate (additional) entry and placed at the back of the parade. In such instance, the additional entry/ies would be subject to late entry fees.

Entries that are deemed political in nature (except those of a political office holder, candidate or recognized political party), or which are deemed inappropriate by the SCV Fourth of July Parade Committee, are subject to disqualification and/or ejection from the parade.

No consumption of alcohol or any controlled substance without a legitimate prescription in any Parade area (including but not limited to Pre-Parade and Post-Parade areas) during the Parade (commencing with the opening of Parade registration), except to the extent that alcohol sales may be sanctioned in a Post-Parade area. The Sheriff's Department will enforce all laws.

HORSES ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PARADE

Distribution, by sale or gift, except by a licensed veterinarian, of controlled substances for horses or livestock is illegal and will result in automatic disqualification and ejection from the parade. Violators may also be subject to permanent exclusion from all future parades organized by the SCV Fourth of July Parade Committee.

Entries may not double back along the parade route while the parade is in progress.

The following transgressions, as determined solely by the SCV Fourth of July Parade Committee, will result in a minimum one-year suspension from the parade: Violation of any rules; failure and/or refusal to follow instructions of SCV Fourth of July Parade Committee members on parade day; rudeness; vulgarity; misbehavior. In other words, violators will not be allowed to participate in the following year's parade(s) and may be subject to even harsher penalties.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know you've received my entry form?

You should receive an automated acknowledgment.

How do I know you've received my check?

We are no longer accepting cash or checks. Payment is only accepted via Eventbrite.

When is my entry form really due?

By 5 p.m. June 14 to avoid a late fee. Entries received after June 14 will be subject to the late fee indicated. No entries will be accepted after 5 p.m. June 21, regardless of circumstances — period.

Can I drop off my forms in person?

No. There are no paper forms, so there is nothing to drop off. (Liability waivers should be printed out, completed ahead of time and brought with you to parade registration.)

If I have to register online, how do I pay the entry fee?

Via Eventbrite.

How long is the parade route?

About two miles. There is a slight incline in some areas; overall, it's uphill. So, it's about a 4-mile round trip to the beginning of the parade. It is preferable to make arrangements for pickup in the vicinity of Dalbey Drive.

If I just want to watch the parade, do I need to contact you or fill out any forms?

Neither.

What if I broke the rules or misbehaved during the parade last year?

We know who you are and you will not be allowed to participate this year. Misbehavior and/or rule violations result in a minimum one-year suspension.

What is happening in Newhall Park after the parade?

Officially, nothing. There will be no public event in the park after the parade.

I'm a vendor and I want to sell stuff during the parade. What do I need to do?

The Parade Committee does not license vendors. With assistance from the Sheriff's Department, vendors will be prohibited from interfering with the line of march during the parade.

If we can't use Silly String during the parade, why are the vendors allowed to sell it?

Because it is not a controlled substance like alcohol or drugs or even spray paint. In 1996, the City Council adopted [an ordinance] banning the "propulsion" of Silly String and other substances into the line of march (the parade route).

Where should I park?

Anywhere you can do so legally. We know it can be a challenge, but somehow it works out every year. Watch for temporary NO PARKING signs on and near the parade route; violators are towed. If you are driving a parade vehicle, you will be shown where to park it when you check-in.

Who must sign the Liability Waiver?

Every adult in your group who will be participating in the parade (including in follow vehicles), and a parent or guardian for each minor participant (under age 18).

I don't have all of the signatures on the Liability Waiver. What should I do?

Well, you could get them on the morning of the parade when your people arrive; just don't come to parade registration without all signatures.

How do I find out about the 5K run?

By visiting the [Santa Clarita Runners website]. The Parade Committee is not directly involved in the run.

My little Suzy wants to decorate her bike, but she doesn't belong to an organization. Can she enter

Yes. She'll need to wear a helmet, be accompanied by a responsible adult if she's under 10, and follow all the rest of the [Parade Rules]. You'll need to send in the entry form and Liability Waiver and pay the non-commercial entry fee.

My nonprofit Cub Scout pack or Mom's Club doesn't have a big budget. Do we really have to pay the no

Yes. The non-commercial entry fee is $50 when submitted by the deadline. The Parade Committee is a nonprofit and it costs money to put on the parade. Your entry actually costs us more than $50; the balance of your "true" cost is subsidized through a combination of entry fees and donations.

I run a gym / dance team / karate studio / etc. as a business. We do a lot of charitable w

The commercial entry fee.

A business is sponsoring our nonprofit's entry. We'll be using their vehicle with logo. Which fee?

The commercial entry fee. If your corporate sponsor is displaying its logo, then sponsoring your entry would be a way for the company to enter the parade without paying full fare.

A business is sponsoring our nonprofit's entry but we're not displaying their logo or ads Which fee?

The non-commercial entry fee.

My kid will be on a bike / skateboard / roller skates. Does he really have to wear a helmet?

Yes. Read the [Parade Rules]. No helmet, no insurance coverage. No insurance coverage, no parade. Adults are not required to wear a helmet but are strongly advised to do so.

We want to give away candy from our parade float. Is that OK?

If you want to give away candy, flags, literature or anything else, someone from your entry must WALK alongside the crowd and HAND it to the spectators. THROWING ANYTHING — or allowing the crowd to walk or run up to your float -- will result in your entry's immediate expulsion from the parade.
